DALE E. FRIDELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:

medical, science, minority, etc. Scholarships are $1000 each and are
offered 4 times a year with deadlines on various dates beginning as

HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION:
Eligibility includes a strong commitment to pursue and complete a
bachelor’s degree, critical financial need ($50,000or less adjusted
gross income per family is preferred; if higher, an explanation must
be given, involvement in co-curricular and community activities, and
have at least a 2.0 GPA. Eight (8) $5000 scholarships will be awarded

• Submit the FAFSA as soon as possible. Apply online for a
PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Then
complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
• If you have not already decided on a university, explore the
offers you have received to help you make a decision.
• Plan a campus tour of any universities you are still considering.
• If you have decided where you are going to college, make sure
you make arrangements for housing if you are going to live on
campus.
• Scholarship offerings should begin coming in during March
and April.
• BE SURE TO GIVE ALL SCHOLARSHIP OFFERINGS TO MRS ARMSTRONG
AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THEM.
• Make sure you complete all financial aid applications if applicable.
• Keep your grades up! Offers can be and are rescinded for those
who think they can just “slide” the last three months of school.

New Scholarship Opportunities
• Greater Montgomery Homebuilders Women’s Council Scholarship:
$2000 scholarship for a senior planning to major in a building
related field. Deadline-April 19th.
• Alabama Restaurant Association-Kirk Kirkland Memorial
Scholarship: Students working toward a degree in the
field of hospitality, culinary, or food service management.
Required GPA-2.5. Deadline-May 1st.
• Capital City Kiwanis Foundation: Merit based
$2000 scholarship; student must have at least a 3.5 GPA and
at least a 28 ACT score. Deadline is April 15th so see Mrs.
Armstrong ASAP for an application.
• Will to Win Scholarship: Seniors who suffer
with asthma may be eligible to apply for this scholarship. Deadline
is April 30, 2010. See Mrs. Armstrong for more details and an
application.

$1000 cash scholarship offered to seniors planning to attend college.
One page essay and letters of recommendation are required. Deadline
is April 1st.
• Jackson Hospital Foundation Scholarships: 10-$1000
scholarships offered to seniors who plan to pursue careers in
nursing, imaging, medical technology, or a related field. Students
must have at least a 2.85 GPA to apply. Deadline: March 20th.
• The University of Alabama Alumni Association-Montgomery/Lowndes
County Chapter: Students from Montgomery or Lowndes County
who are enrolled at U of A for the fall of 2009 may apply. Deadline:
April 1st.
• Baptist Healthcare Foundation Scholarship:
If your parent or parents are employed by the Baptist Healthcare
system, you can apply for a scholarship.
See Mrs. Armstrong for an application. Deadline is March 31, 2009.
• Women’s Alabama Golf Association Scholarship:
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following
criteria: be in need of financial assistance to pursue a college
degree and have an ACT score of at least 22. Deadline is April
1, 2009. See Mrs. Armstrong for an application.
• U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program: 40
$1000 scholarships to be awarded. Apply online at www.usbank.com.
Deadline is March 31, 2010.
COLLEGE INFO – FEBRUARY 2010

If needed, register to take
the April 10th ACT. Regular registration deadline is March 5th;
late registration deadline is March 19th.

Register for a PIN so that
you can complete and sign the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) online at www.pin.ed.gov.

File the FAFSA as soon as
possible (most universities designate March 1 as their FAFSA priority
date); apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Keep copies of everything
you send.

Apply to colleges by the
priority financial aid deadlines to get the most attractive award
package. (If you do not know the priority deadline for the college
you are going to attend, be sure to contact the Financial Aid

Scholarship Opportunities

Montgomery Military
Officers Association Scholarship: $5000 scholarship;
students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and exhibit excellent character
and personal qualities. Applicants must obtain three letters of
recommendation and must write a personal essay explaining why
they want the scholarship. Pressing financial need will be considered.
Deadline: April 15, 2010.

Maxwell-Gunter Officers'
Spouses Club Scholarship: Applicants must be a legal
dependent of a U.S. military officer or enlisted person (active
or reserve) assigned to Maxwell-Gunter or stationed at a remote
location, dependent of retired personnel living in the Montgomery
area, or dependent of deceased military personnel. See Mrs. Armstrong
for application. Deadline: Postmarked on or before February 26,
2010.

American Society
of Civil Engineers Scholarship: If you plan to enroll
in civil engineering in college, see Mrs. Armstrong for this scholarship
opportunity. Deadline: February 18.

KFC Colonel's Scholarship:
Online applications available from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 at www.kfcscholars.org.
You must be enrolling in an Alabama college or university, have
at least a 2.75 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.

Jackson Hospital
Foundation Scholarships: If you are going to pursue a
degree in nursing, imaging, medical technology, or a related medical
field, Jackson Hospital is offering 10 $1,000 scholarships. See
Mrs. Armstrong if you are interested. Deadline is Friday, March
20 by 5 p.m.

Max 4 Kids Scholarship:
MAX Credit Union will award 10 $2000 scholarships to eligible
high school seniors who meet the following criteria: the student
must be a MAX Credit Union member and must have a GPA of at least

Deadline is March 12, 2010.

Central Alabama Electric
Cooperative Scholarship: If your parents pay their electric
bill to Central Alabama Electric Cooperative, you can apply for
this scholarship. To obtain an application, call Mrs. Tiffany
Trueblood at 351-2125. Deadline is March 12, 2010.

U.S. Bank Internet
Scholarship Program: 40 $1000 scholarships to be awarded.
Apply online at www.usbank.com.

Women's Alabama Golf
Association: $2500 renewable scholarship offered to senior
girls who have shown evidence of academic excellence, leadership,
good citizenship, sportsmanship, and community involvement. Deadline
is April 1, 2010. See Mrs. Armstrong for an application. (You
do not have to play golf to apply for this scholarship.)

University of Alabama
Scholarships: If you are attending Alabama in the fall,
see Mrs. Armstrong for 9 new scholarship offerings. Deadline is
April 1, 2010.

American Legion Auxiliary
Scholarship: Criteria: Student must be a legal resident
of Alabama; must be the son/grandson/great-grandson or daughter/granddaughter
of a veteran who served his/her country during times of war. See
Mrs. Armstrong for an application. (There are some restrictions
on these scholarships based on the student's choice of college
or university.) Deadline April 1st and May 1st.
COLLEGE INFO - JANUARY 2010
- If needed, register for the February 6th ACT. Late
registration is January 6-15.
- Be aware of deadlines for scholarship applications!
- Complete admissions procedures for your top college choices.
- If you need letters of reference for your applications,
be sure to ask your references well in advance of the deadline.
If you know, tell your references (teacher, youth minister,
coach, etc.) what kind of information is needed in the letter
of reference. Reference the information I gave you in your
senior notebook.
- Send thank you notes to those people who take the time to
write letters of reference for you.
- Mail all applications, or give them to Mrs. Armstrong, who
will mail them for you, including a copy of your transcript
with the applications.
- Be sure to take all college acceptance letters and scholarship
offerings to Mrs. Armstrong for your senior file.
- Register for a PIN so you can complete and sign the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.pin.ed.gov.
- File the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov

school senior with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; must work 15 hours

- KFC Colonel's Scholarship: Online applications

- Best Buy Scholarships: 1,000 scholarships

- Lucille Lawthorn Richie Scholarship: Offered
to African-American students; if interested in applying, make
reservations by calling and leaving your name, address, and

- Central Alabama Electric Cooperative: Two
$500 scholarships will be awarded by the Electric Cooperative
Foundation. Applicants must be dependents of CAEC members.
