Program
Components
Each year Alabama Christian Academy accepts
a limited number of students into the K4 program. This program's
pupil-teacher ratio is purposely kept low in order to provide
more individual attention for young students. A half-day program
is available. It dismisses at noon.
Our academic program includes reading, language,
spelling, handwriting, math, science, social studies, and
Bible. Each day students visit centers used to reinforce social
and academic skills. Our K-4 students receive physical education
for 30 minutes every day. We also enjoy a recess period daily.
In addition, they receive art, music, and manners instruction
as well as library time on a weekly basis.
We believe young children are more likely to
understand and remember relationships, concepts and strategies
that they acquire through firsthand, meaningful experience.

Application
Process
After turning in an application with the non-refundable
application fee, you will be contacted to schedule a time
for a family interview. These interviews are usually conducted
in January and February. At a later date, usually in March,
you will receive a letter asking one parent and the child
to come for our screening process. This lasts about an hour,
and looks at the readiness and behavior of each child. Within
three weeks of the screening date, parents are notified if
their children have been accepted into our program. |

Language
Arts
The K-4 classes at ACA utilize the “Story Town”
language arts curriculum published by Harcourt. It employs
a variety of fiction and nonfiction literature and includes
narratives, poems, plays, and fantasy. The program’s vocabulary
is robust and helps to create a rich learning environment
for students. In addition to this program, ACA incorporates
journal writing, the making of class books, the singing of
songs, and the playing of games into instruction to help pupils
become fluent with letter recognition and sounds. Enrichment
activities are offered in the classroom for students who are
ready to proceed with reading. Teachers keep a portfolio for
students to track their progress throughout the school year.
Bible Centers
The K4, K5 and first grade classes have daily
chapel together in the K4 wing of our building. Bible study
begins with Genesis and concludes with the Life of Christ.
The students also have daily Bible lessons in class. We learn
Bible facts and ways to apply these lessons in daily life.
Center time is used
daily to reinforce academic skills being taught in the classroom.
This is also a valuable opportunity for students to practice
developing social skills. The learning centers change weekly.
Other centers include art, home living, reading, listening,
math, blocks, sand and water table, as well as computers.

Math
The Creative Curriculum Approach is
used in math. Emphasis is placed upon the following skills:
1 to 1 correspondence, counting1 to 50, sequencing, patterns,
graphing, calendar work, and number recognition 1 to 30. Students
participate in exciting hands-on activities with a very limited
number of worksheets.
Social Science
Social studies and science concepts are incorporated
into thematic units. Social skills are a main focus in everything
done in our K4 classes. Lessons in manners from the “Manners
of the Heart” curriculum are also taught on a weekly basis.
